I never know exactly where I’m going with a painting until the final moments
The Artists bio
Revealing the inner light within all subjects is my goal. All of this physical world is fleeting and transitory. I aim to offer a glimpse of the inner realm within my human, animal, plant or stone subjects. For I believe all are alive, a divine connection which I feel very strongly when I paint.
Painting for me is a meditative flow of that life force within all, manifesting the unseen in paint. My favourite medium is oil, as through oil paint, I am able to become One with the creativity of the Divine. For me, there is no greater expression of creativity than painting. It is as if I ‘breathe’ my subjects to life. I run weekend retreat workshops combining meditation and painting. See www.living-lightly.co.uk for details.
Acrylics I find a little dead to work with but they allow me to work quickly in building up detail and layers, especially in landscapes and portraits.
My style is diverse: if i feel like being freestyle, I choose palette-knife work using Windor and Newton oils to lay down texture and form. If I feel like creating detail, then I choose acrylic. Both have their merits.
I started painting in 2010 as a recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and it opened up a world of wonder which never ceases to amaze me. I never know exactly where I’m going with a painting until the final moments.
