my portraits, mostly done in pastel, capture personality and tell the story of the subject
The Artists bio
I was born in Glasgow and from the age of eleven, raised in the mining village of Muirkirk, Ayrshire . From a young age I showed artistic talent. My drawn and representational work had attracted attention but until relatively recently I had little exposure to the wider range of media.
The last two decades have been dedicated to building and nurturing my young family. Events, however, interrupted my family’s progress and I found myself in a difficult position which resulted in me paying a debt to society. These challenges, however difficult, have provided me with opportunities. I was given a chance to develop and now through the Catalyst project, I am being encouraged to fulfil my artistic potential and professionally, I haven’t looked back.
I am inspired by the natural world and have created a range of work in oil and pastel which depicts my local landscape. Although currently developing my skills in landscape my real passion has been for portraiture. I believe that my portraits, mostly done in pastel, capture personality and tell the story of the subject. My colour use is vibrant yet technical and I believe that this gives my recent work impact and power. I am currently working through a plan to develop my business. I am ‘The Picturist’ and my work will be accessible on all social media platforms. I am creating a website and I am exposing my work to a wider public. I have completed, and I am currently engaged in, commissions for my portraits and that is the main thrust of my current work. Privately, I am working on a series of landscapes of our local area.
