It was in the year 2000 that I felt the need to follow my dream and become a full time painter.

The Artists bio

PAT KRAMEK lives and works as an artist in North Ayrshire.

I was born in Edinburgh. My father was Polish and my mother was Scottish, my father was a watchmaker. Watches and a myriad of wonderful clocks were a big part in my life. Especially the chiming clocks that were all synchronised and would chime every fifteen minutes …….. al through the night. my mother designed and made magical wedding dresses.

I studied printed textiles and weaving at Duncan of Jordanstone school of art from 1972 until 1976. I won various awards including two RSA (London) travel bursaries and graduated with a DA in printed textiles.

After art school I designed carpets for BMK and designed textiles for Anna French. I then went into Education and taught art and computing at Belmont in Ayr. Over these years I still painted and created large wall hangings for various galleries.

It was in the year 2000 that I felt the need to follow my dream and become a full time painter.
My background in textiles is evident in my painting. Texture, light and colour is what my work is all about. Paint looks completely different when it is built up. It reflects more light and the texture of the paint causes the colour to change, just like a piece of woven fabric. My painting is impressionistic and very spontaneous. If something accidental happens and it looks good, I use it. I think that is what gives my work it’s carefree look. Finding an unusual colour combination, is like finding gold. When I open myself up to the process, rather than trying to control the situation, there is a natural love and energy that comes into the painting. Working in this way generates a vitality that is not only gratifying to me as an artist, but in turn, I hope, touches those viewers who are ready for the experience.

I have exhibited in various one man shows and joint exhibitions in many galleries, throughout the UK and Europe. I have also helped to generate substantial funds for many charities. My paintings are held in corporate and private collections throughout the world.
