Elizabeth picked up a paintbrush in 2018, not long after retiring from a career that she loved but which definitely used the other side of her brain and instantly found herself hooked. She had always been creative – tapestry and embroidery had kept her busy for years – but painting opened up a whole new world of joy and colour – and Elizabeth does love colour, even in her purple and sometimes pink hair! What began as a wee experiment – a toe in the water – quickly became a passion that’s now part of her everyday life.
Elizabeth loves exploring different media, each with its own “personality” and much of her inspiration comes from her love of gardens and gardening. Travel has also left a lasting imprint on her work. Time spent in the Far East reinforced a love for the elegance of the kimono, the intricacy of patterns, and the harmony of Oriental design. Those influences often weave their way into her work, even if it’s just a wee hint that you need to search out. Painting brings together so much of what Elizabeth loves – nature, colour, and culture.
Elizabeth is excited to be expanding her creative world, transforming many of her original paintings – far more than you see here – into beautifully printed fabrics. These are then crafted into wearable pieces – kimono-style jackets, accessories – as well as striking wall hangings.
Elizabeth is available to undertake commissions – when you ask an artist to capture something deeply personal, you’re inviting them into your world – and that’s a responsibility she never takes lightly. Elizabeth is honoured that four clients have already entrusted her with their stories through bespoke artwork. These commissions have been floral pieces, with one exception – a seascape and all but one have a private home. Her most recent painting commission in 2025 was for the Ayrshire Hospice and now hangs in a public space in their newly opened building in Ayr. If there’s something close to your heart that you’d love to see transformed into art, Elizabeth would love to talk with you about bringing it to life.
Elizabeth’s commissioning offer now extends to unique items of clothing, created in a variety of luxurious fabrics and designed in collaboration with her customer. One such piece has recently been completed and delivered to a thrilled client. And every piece is completely unique. No duplicates. No repeats. Just yours!
