Born in Glasgow and now calling the Scots “Leid Toun” of Muirkirk his home. John is a Scottish artist who works in many different mediums.
It wasn’t until later in life that he discovered his talent for art, since then, he has embarked on a creative journey.
This journey was ignited by the”Catalyst” project in Kilmarnock, fueled by Fiona McKenzie’s vision of art for all in the community. Her enabling of studio space and materials, facilitated his imagination and started his saga.
He has since embraced every opportunity to learn about art and the art world that is presented to him.. his thirst for knowledge is insatiable.
John has been involved in numerous open exhibitions in and around Ayrshire, including the Dick Institute, Harbour Arts Centre, Paisley Art Institute and the Maclaurin Gallery.
Trying to fast track his education in art, John attended Ayr College, whilst there, he was commissioned, by the institution to produce a portrait and also a piece of jewellery for the Principle to her on retirement.
His first solo exhibition in Feb 2020 in Tsukure CIC Hub Gallery, saw fifty pieces of work, mostly portraits on display, while John demonstrated his portraiture skills depicting Joan Hollywood and then covid happened!
Since covid, John has completed several large murals, the first being, Muirkirk’s “Tibbie Pagan” tribute, completed in March 2022.
John is esthetically, historically and literally inspired by his surroundings wherever he may be.
