I am a mixed media artist who finds inspiration through expressing my connection with colour and landscape.
My style is semi-abstract through building loose layers and tonal contrast to explore the vibrancy of light and weather in the landscape. More recently I have been exploring the potential to create visual impact through contrasting cool and warm colours.
I prefer to make marks with large brushes and wedge painting tools and a variety of found objects. I really enjoy working with the loose fluidity of watercolour and ink. I often start with splashes of masking fluid and colour. I am excited by the colour vibrancy of acrylic paint. The flexibility of building, removing and glazing acrylic paint allows me to explore layering and contrast. More recently I have been using Gelli printing to build collage. I often use wet strength tissue paper to create translucent layers within my work.
In 2023, as my art practice expanded, I chose to take on a larger art studio at Narture in Ayr. It has been a pleasure to connect with the community of fellow artists at Narture and have a bright and creative space to work in.
