Neil primarily works with oil paints, but also specialises in pastels and charcoal. His main interests are portraiture, Scottish Wildlife, Pet portraits, landscapes and still-life. His style is firmly anchored in a ‘traditional Classical Approach’ to representation within each genre, but wrestles with some contemporary practices to produce an authentic unique outcome. His influences range from Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Sargent, to some contemporary artists like Christian Hook, Jenny Saville and Cesar Santos.
Neil believes that Art should be easily accessible and understood by all where a representational style is critical in this respect.
