I am an artist who takes inspiration from her family holidays in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.
I feel privileged to have experienced the vibrant colours of the sea, the sand and the drama of the North Atlantic as it crashes up against the Scottish shoreline. I paint in oils, which is one of my favourite mediums. I paint a lot with a pallet knife and fingers hopefully conveying movement in my paintings. I paint in a fast free style with lots of colour. I paint on several canvas at one time, which makes me a prolific artist.
I also love flowers, so when I am not painting I am gardening. I enjoy going for walks in my local woods with my dogs, taking inspiration from the ever changing natural environment surrounding me. I always have a sketchbook and pens with me. You never know when you have a chance to draw something that catches your eye. I say my sketchbook is a visual diary, which I use to “switch off”, a mindfulness exercise.
I love experimenting in different mediums. I think it keeps your creativity fresh. Many of my floral paintings are painted in mixed media. I love combining watercolour, inks and hard pastels.
I have lately discovered modelling paste and add the sand to it from one my favourite Scottish beaches called “Clachtoll” (on the NC500) to my paintings.
