Vanessa is a multi-disciplinary artist whose creative journey has been shaped by the countryside, by a deep, life-long fascination with nature, wild tangled places and woodlands.
She is a painter and textiles artist, but her most recent artistic obsession has been with ‘botanic contact printing’.
Using real leaves from the Ayrshire landscape, and using an artistic process that captures the essence of this nature through colours extracted from the plants themselves, as well as from metals and minerals.
These contact prints are employed as a foundation for acrylic painting, and sometimes stitching, depicting creatures that inhabit Scotland’s landscapes
Vanessa likes to merge and overlap media, mixing painting, botanical printing and stitching to create mixed media pieces.
Beyond her artistic practice, Vanessa has also been an educator, sharing her expertise in both fine art and textiles for two decades.
