It is difficult for me to think about art without thinking about play. To play is to move without the heaviness of failure, the resistance of judgment and the shadow of self-consciousness. In my practice play, guides me.
My work explores themes of home and body through sculptures, drawings, and installations to reconstruct internalised value systems and centre play.
I work predominantly in sculpture with wood and fibre, creating familiar feelings in unfamiliar methods. In my more recent works, The Worms (2022) and The Wrappings (2022 – ongoing) I use colour and form to explore the restraints, complexities and accessibility of joy within late capitalism.
In 2022, I graduated with a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design in Vancouver, Canada. Later that year, I set out travelling Europe and have spent the last two years building a home here in Scotland.
I want to be playful, and I want to live playfully. Prioritising play is a radical act. All the materials I use, in colour and form, connect back to investigating the exclusivity, the internalised boundaries, and restrictions of play to liberate myself and my practice to a more joyous existence.
